The morning started out fine...dad even stayed late to hang out for a bit before leaving for work. Until he realized that he had a meeting in under 1/2 hour and had to go...fast! So he kissed us and hurried out the door. Ever since he left, things have gone downhill...literally.
Hayden was being good entertaining himself before Storytime at the library while I folded some laundry. He wanted to show me something so he came running into the laundry room...just a little too fast. He tripped over the gate that we have set up for the dog (it sits in the tiny hallway between the kitchen and the front of the house). and he fell...hard. It appearded, after I rounded the corner and scooped him up (not 10 seconds later), that he caught himself on his head (on the wood floors mind you). He already had the goose egg at that point. Nice. Sheesh.
I called the doctor because it worried me that it swelled so fast. After asking if he had any clear fluid running from his nose, eyes, or ears (um, no) or if he was having double vision or a headache (no again) they determined that he was fine and that we should just watch him for the next 24 hours to make sure he doesn't get a bad headache, have balance issue or throw up.
So off to the library we went. Upon getting into the car, he hit his head on the car door as it opened. Perfect. At the library he showed his bump to his friends. I said, "Yeah, this is his first goose egg". Upon which he turns to me and says, "Goose egg? Hey, Easter is over!" True, very true.
Then we got to the library and he was quite a pill, but still doing fine. Then we ran some errands, and grabbed some lunch. Still fine.
After returning home, he rode his bike a little out front and then we headed in to take a nap. As we were headed up to bed, he tripped on the gate AGAIN! ARGH! This time he feel and caught himself on his knee and actually cried more this time than he did last time with the head bonk. I explained to him that he needs to slow down and watch where he is going. I guess that is easy for me to say!
Cameron suggested that perhaps since he saw daddy hurrying this morning when he realized he was late for his meeting, that Hayden was testing out his hurry skills as well! I wouldn't doubt it! -- mam
