Because it is a Co-Op preschool, I am required to "work" in the classroom. It works out that I work in the classroom about 1 out of every 4 times Hayden attends (so once a month I am in the class on Fridays while he is there). I am totally fine with that. I have no problem giving back to the school and being a parent-teacher. It's going to be fun I think. Seeing Hayden in a more structured environment should be interesting. I stayed with him last Friday since it was his first day, but this coming Friday I am going to just drop him off. So I will be anxious to see how he does. I hope he does well and doesn't freak out!
I know two moms in the class already. They are in the mom's group that I organize. Their sons (Alex and Alexander) are almost exactly Hayden's age. So, at least on the days that I am not there, they probably will be and he will recognize them and their boys. I HOPE!
A typical day in class goes something like this:
9:30-10am: Free Play in the classroom (toys are out for kids to use - trains, books, blocks, and stuffed animals). There is also a painting station and a room full of ride on toys and a slide.
10-10:20: Circle Time (all kids grab a carpet square and listen to a couple books and sing songs).
10:20-10:40: Large Motor Activity (children are either taken outside or kept inside if it is raining to do some sort of physical activity - parachute, take a walk, biking, gymnastics, playground, etc.
10:40-11am: Snack Time (one work parent is in charge of bringing the snack for all the kids).
11-11:45: Activity Room time (kids are able to freely participate in sensory activities such as painting, play-doh, art, pretend play, building, etc).
11:45-Noon: Ending Circle/Story Time (read a book, sing a song, celebrate any birthdays that week, etc).
It's a nice schedule and not to rigid in my opinion. They are two, so they learn mostly through play, but that's ok in my book (at this age anyway).
Wish me luck for next Friday! -- mam
