I decided to give it a shot, and the practice has stuck. Me, I usually do a 2-3 on the sides and a 4-6 on the top, usually consistent with summer/winter. It isn't really that I'm a cheap skate and don't want to pay for a haircut, it's just that if this is the style I'm going for, then it's a pretty easy thing to do on your own, so why not spend the $50 on a decent trimmer and have at it.

The love continued on, when about three years ago I got the grandpas here to jump on board.

Well. The saga looks to be continuing.

I'll describe this just how it happened.

First, Mom was getting ancy about wanting to give him a cut, but was going to have the stylist try the clippers to see how he did (and to see how it looked). If it turned out ok, we would perhaps try this on our own.

After bath this evening, I had the clippers out and so for fun I picked them up and introduced them to Hayden. I touched the clipper part and then offered them up for him (with encouraging words) to feel.

That went very well.

So I then plugged them in, put on a #8 (1in.) and then let him touch that awhile.

So far so good.

Next I turned them on and off a few times, to let him get used to the power on/off sounds.

No issues, what's the big deal?

Next I let him touch the body of the clippers powered on to get used to the vibration.

Cool, what's up?

Finally I ran the clippers over my head while on. (a #8 on me doesn't take anything off).

Again, no issues.

So then I just set the clippers on his head, without doing any cutting, and he was totally cool.

So Mom and I looked at each other and gave the nod.

Over the next five minutes we got what I'd say to be about an 80-90% complete haircut.

It looks pretty dang good. Hayden was totally cool the whole way, and would even just lay his head on my shoulder as I or Mom cut his hair.

He started to get a little bored with it after a bit, so that is why we didn't get a for sure complete cut.

We'll post pictures when he wakes up and you can be the judge. -- cjm
