My friend Christy invited Hayden and I to attend a moms group outing to Denny's Pet World in Totem Lake this morning.

There were about 20 kids there, most of whom were between the ages of 3 and 6. Hayden and Christy's 5 month-old daughter, Alyssa, were definitely the youngest of the group.

We were given a tour by a very nice gal who worked there. She brought us to the fish first. Hayden loved watching the tropical fish dart around their big tank. I was carrying him in the Baby Bjorn, so he was able to reach out his hands and try to grab them through the glass. He got a big kick out of that and he even let out a laugh.

After the fish, we saw a parrot and some reptiles, all of which didn't seem to interest him much. Then she brought out a bunny! Hayden got to pet the bunny's back and he did so very gently. I was afraid that he would get his little hands on that bunny fur and yank like crazy...but he didn't. She also brought out another type of rabbit, then a guinea pig and a ferret. Hayden got to pet each one and seemed to enjoy that too! After the official tour was over, we took a little tour of our own and looked at some more rabbits, mice, birds and rats.

We had a great time and I am looking forward to doing more outings with this moms group. There was talk about going to a kangaroo petting farm in Arlington! That sounds like more fun for mom than Hayden! It will be nice to have my friend Christy and her daughter closer by (she just returned to WA after a few year stint in SC). Maybe Alyssa and Hayden will grow up as buddies! -- mam
