Hayden is 3 months old as of November 13th! On the 12th, he went to the doctor and weighed in at 13 lbs 8 oz (the 55th percentile). He is certainly on his way to obtaining the goal of doubling his birth weight by the time he is 6 months old! In this category, he is an overacheiver!

Some milestones that he has reached so far are:

  • laughs out loud and smiles
  • grasps a toy (just started reaching for a toy- his Mr. Whoozit- and pulling it to his mouth today!)
  • holds head up while seated and looks around
  • is better at tummy time (still hates it, but holds head up for a few seconds)
  • brings hands together and sucks on fists (favors right at this point)
  • recognizes mom and dad (or so we like to think) and smiles when we talk to him
  • great eye contact, follows someone walking across the room
  • has definitely found his voice and shows it off by "screaming" with delight (and sometimes frustration) at the top of his lungs and also by cooing and making other sounds, usually after eating or waking up
  • sleeps more at night (usually in 2 blocks going down between 8-9 pm, waking at 3am to eat, then sleeping until 6 or 7am (or sometimes, like this morning, until 8!)Likes:
  • his swing and aquarium bouncy chair (most of the time)
  • his soft blue blanket while in his swing or carseat
  • his colorful, plastic teething ring
  • his pacifier (known as the "paci" or "bink")
  • being sung to (or when you make funny noises)
  • baths (usually, especially in the big tub!)
  • to stop smiling as soon as the camera comes out
  • TV! (he will stare at it to watch anything from Thomas the Train to the Evening News)
  • getting his diaper changed (a.k.a being naked)
  • being carried outward in front of you
  • looking at lights (and Great-Grandma Frieda's paintings)
  • his head rubbed
  • laying on the couch in front of us and playing
  • laying on the fronts of our thighs in an elevated position- either on his front or his back (but he is getting a little too long for that now)
  • standing on his legs (and looking tough)
  • to stretchDislikes:
  • his carseat (unless he is sleeping in it)
  • any clothes that are pulled over his head
  • being cold
  • being ignored!
  • having his ears cleaned or nose sucked with the bulb syringe (completely understandable)
  • eating from a bottle(Note: None of these have been documented on the camera...yet!)

Things that Hayden does during the day:

  • eats every 3 hours or so (sometimes more frequently, sometimes a little less)
  • stays awake for about an hour after eating (sometimes a little longer) before going down for a nap
  • naps 3-4 times a day (usually lasting 1-2 hours each time)
  • plays under his gym or in his aquarium bouncy chair
  • goes for walks with mom (sometimes riding in the stroller like a big boy!)
  • plays with mom and dad and makes them laughSo that's Hayden at 3 months in a nutshell. He is generally a happy baby (although lately he has been a bit cranky while he deals with acid reflux. But, we will get through that- or so everyone keeps tellling me. It is very trying at times when he doesn't want to eat well. I just feel so bad when he is in pain and has to be on medication and go through this at such a young age). We love him dearly and we are so proud when he does something new and reaches another milestone. My dad always tells me that every year with your child gets better, and even though we are only a few months into his life, we are loving every minute of it and looking forward to the future while appreciating everything in the present!
